Mike was in some of my classes at both Windsor and Merrill. Although I didn't know him well, he was always kind and a good guy. Prayers and thoughts with his family.

This is sad news.  I was first acquainted with Mike at Merrill when all of us from various elementary school were tossed into the mix of junior high (and some of us, painfully, had to attend those Lois Penn ballroom dance lessons!), and then more recently a few years back while spending time with (the late) Julie Irvine Brenton at her home in Tulum. At that point, in Mexico, I hadn't seen Mike for decades and was surprised and delighted to encounter this tall bearded, adult-sized individual who was staying nearby, with some other former Rosies, and who was so friendly and memorable with his  gravelly voice and contagious joie-de-vivre. I valued those brief reconnections with Mike, and I can only imagine how much loss his family and close friends are feeling now.

I never got the opportunity to know Mike real well, but he was in a couple of my classes at Roosevelt and we spoke briefly time to time.
Shortly after high school, I drew a low number in the draft and was summoned to Fort Des Moines for a pre induction physical into the US Army. I entered and looked around. There in the middle of a large crowded area stood Frahmer. I was never so glad to see a familiar face. That smile and gravelly voice was a comfort in what was otherwise an unsettling day. It wasn't long before we were separated by an alphabetical system. I never saw Mike again but assumed he avoided any further contact w Uncle Sam after the President called off the draft just days later. Mike was a good guy and certainly didn't deserve such an unfortunate life circumstance. My condolences go out to his wife and family and those who knew him far better than me. I know he'll leave a large void, but one that will be replaced with joyful memories. RIP my friend.

Mike was a colorful character. I got to know him in 11th grade when I started working at Northwest Community Hospital washing dishes. Let me simply say there are some interesting tales I can share from those days. My first night on the job was kind of jarring. I was sitting down with the rest of the guys for dinner. I just finished by meat loaf, when Don Addy, who was a year ahead of us at Roosevelt, looked at me as the new kid on the block and said, "You … go get my smokes." I squirmed in my chair and croaked out, "you have two perfectly good legs, you get them yourself." All of Don's toadies responded in unison, "ooooh!" I was pretty certain I was dead meat.  But Mike interceded and said, " Hey, I don't mind getting them. I know where they are." I survived the night!

After I retired from my dishwashing career, I only saw Mike once more. I ran into him at the Greenwood Lounge on Ingersol when I was in college and had a beer with him. I believe his voice had gotten even more gravelly! We had fun reminiscing.

Ultimately, I hit it off well with Mike even though we were different as night and day. May his soul rest in peace.

Mike was a wryly funny guy with a great sense of humor and always up for a good time.

How well I remember letting him drive our Jeep (it seemed like a good idea at the time) one sunny day and he had it up on two wheels on several occassions making turns - luckily it had a roll-bar which we didn't need except to hold to for dear life.

RIP Mike...
