Pam and I were friends from 7th through 12th grades. We never dated, unless you count one after-school movie in the auditorium of Franklin Junior High when we were seventh graders.  We remained in contact by telephone through college and after.  When she would return to Iowa for a family visit, we would occasionally get together in Des Moines.  She came to visit me in Storm Lake shortly before her death and told me about the legal steps she had taken to try to protect herself from her violent, estranged husband.  She truly feared for her life.  Weeks later, I was stunned when I heard the report on my car radio that her husband had taken Pam’s life, her mother’s, and his own.

Pam was one of the smartest people in our class.  I’ve never known a gentler, kinder person.

Phil Havens, thanks for the post. My freshman year at Drake the debate club went to a tournament in Texas. I don't remember if it was at TCU or SMU. The event was at one. Pam was at school at the other. I hitched a ride and spent an hour or two talking with Pam and then hitched back. Last time I saw her. A wonderful person.

I remember Pam from home room at TRHS.  Always sweet, kind and smart.  I am apalled to find out what she went through at the end of her life.  RIP Pam.
